What you will see

Your visit begins with a short introduction to Singapore’s oil and chemical waste landscape and the vital role NSL plays in managing hazardous materials. After a safety briefing, you’ll embark on a guided walkthrough of key operational areas including:

  • The Weigh Bridge – where incoming waste is first logged and inspected

  • The Quality Control Lab – where samples are analysed to determine the best treatment method

  • The Slop Treatment Plant – where oily sludge and wastewater are separated and processed

  • The Water Discharge Point & Ship Dock – where marine waste is collected and treated water is released

  • The Waste-to-Energy Incinerator – where non-recoverable toxic waste is safely disposed of

Watch heavy-duty machinery, automated systems, and intricate lab procedures at work — all part of a seamless system that turns hazardous waste into cleaner outputs.

Who you will meet

Meet Ms Jin Chao Hui (standing) and her protégé, Ms Tan Shiow Fong (seated). Throughout the tour, you’ll have the chance to meet them and many other everyday heroes working behind the scenes — from waste analysts and chemical engineers to operations planners and emergency response staff. Hear from NSL’s lab technicians as they explain how they determine the right treatment for each type of waste. Speak to engineers who design and run the treatment systems. And learn from the team that was on the ground during the 2024 oil spill, as they share how they responded to one of Singapore’s most urgent environmental incidents. This is more than just a factory tour — it’s a story of innovation, resilience, and the unsung heroes who power Singapore’s industries.
