My Community develops programmes and activities to empower the everyday person to tell their own stories, capture their own histories and partake in the act of community building. Why? We believe in the importance of getting everyone involved in the preservation and propagation of community heritage to contribute to a more holistic picture of the country’s heritage.

As such, many of our activities, including community tours, visits to our museum as well as talks and seminars, are free and open to anyone and everyone.

Since 2010, the organisation has worked towards extending regular heritage walks, ground-up community festivals and thoughtful place-making activities to residents of estates such as Queenstown, Bukit Merah and Tiong Bahru. To deepen community roots, we’ve published magazines and brochures tracing the stories of historical sites and landmarks in these estates and beyond.

Our community-building and support initiatives also include the ongoing Hello Dawson! Programme which involves us dedicating help to more than 1,000 elderly, low-income and physically disabled residents, who as a result of the Selective En bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS) in Tanglin Halt, need to relocate to Dawson.

My Community’s work is primarily funded by donations, government grants and ticket sales from some of our guided tours. In order to guarantee the tenability of the organisation, our financial policies are guided by three fundamental principles: sustainability, transparency and scalability.

Every dollar donated to My Community is channelled towards our research and community programmes. Your contributions go a long way in funding the preservation and propagation of Singapore’s community heritage.

As an Institution of a Public Character, donations to My Community are 2.5 times deductible against the taxable income.
