Boots on the Ground

History doesn’t always have to be relayed blandly through textbooks. In fact, more often than not they come to life outside the classroom. My Community’s tours for students take the young on routes across Singapore’s old towns and culturally rich enclaves, enthralling them with stories of their ancestors and predecessors. The aim? To cement their interest in local heritage.

My Community was engaged by Temasek Secondary School to deepen students’ appreciation of Singapore’s history and heritage. Participants were taken on an immersive trail tracing the legend of Bukit Merah and its evolution from a hilly backwater to a modern residential state. Guides fascinated students with captivating retellings of the personal biographies of key personalities related to the Redhill story. They also highlighted relevant lessons from the past.
